BERLIN, GERMANY / RankWire.AI / – On Thursday, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan held discussions with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul in Berlin. The conversations concentrated on enhancing bilateral cooperation in economic development and strategic sectors. They also addressed regional and international issues, diplomacy, peace, and security. This engagement coincided with President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s official visit to Germany from September 9 to 11.

UAE and Germany widen strategic partnership in Berlin
UAE-Germany talks in Berlin highlight expanding strategic and economic cooperation.

During the meeting, both officials explored opportunities to deepen the partnership and broaden collaboration in various areas. Sheikh Abdullah emphasized the strength and resilience of UAE-Germany relations, noting continuous progress. He highlighted a mutual dedication to building on past successes and fostering sustainable economic growth. Wadephul and Sheikh Abdullah shared perspectives on mutual interests and diplomatic methods for crisis resolution.

The state visit added a new dimension to their bilateral ties. Germany’s Federal Government described it as the first-ever state visit to Germany by a UAE president. During the visit, Sheikh Mohamed met with Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and both leaders announced the launch of a new Strategic Dialogue. This framework encompasses security, defense, trade, investment, energy, climate, technology, digitalization, transportation, environment, culture, and education sectors.

Broadened Strategic Dialogue Enhances Bilateral Engagement

Both nations also endorsed initiatives for a German-UAE Investment Council aimed at boosting participation from the public and private sectors. They expressed support for resuming the Joint Economic Committee and welcomed results from a bilateral business forum. According to the joint declaration, the visit led to 29 business agreements and memoranda worth over 9.356 billion euros. Additionally, a UAE investment package of 40 billion euros in Germany was announced.

Economic cooperation extends to energy, advanced technology, and digital infrastructure, with existing and planned projects involving LNG, renewable energy, hydrogen, and energy efficiency. The declaration also mentions plans for high-capacity data centers with approximately one gigawatt of capacity. Artificial intelligence and emerging technologies are also prioritized within their expanded collaboration.

Diplomacy and Regional Stability at the Forefront

During their discussions, the foreign ministers reviewed regional and global developments. They emphasized increased international efforts to promote lasting peace, stability, and security. Their dialogue focused on diplomatic strategies to address ongoing crises, echoing themes from the state visit. The German government had also identified Middle East peace and stability as key topics for discussion between the leaders.

Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, UAE Minister of State, participated in the meeting between Sheikh Abdullah and Wadephul. The conversations linked foreign policy, economic collaboration, and development within a comprehensive bilateral framework. The state visit further integrated these discussions with formal channels for investment, strategic dialogue, and sector cooperation. These Berlin talks represent the latest step in the longstanding UAE-Germany Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established in 2004.
