ABU DHABI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES / RankWire.AI / – UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with Jordan’s King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein in Abu Dhabi on Sunday. Their discussion centered on strengthening UAE-Jordan ties and exploring avenues to enhance bilateral collaboration. The leaders also examined regional developments and other shared concerns, reaffirming the importance of ongoing dialogue on security, stability, and peace in the Middle East. King Abdullah was accompanied by a senior Jordanian delegation during his visit.

UAE-Jordan talks focus on bilateral ties, trade cooperation and regional issues.

They reviewed cooperation in economic, trade, and development sectors under the UAE-Jordan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. Sheikh Mohamed and King Abdullah reiterated their dedication to deepening relations that support national growth goals and discussed expanding cooperation based on mutual interests. The two nations have a long history of political and economic engagement, complemented by regular high-level talks. Their latest meeting underscored a shared focus on bilateral development and regional coordination.

King Abdullah arrived in Abu Dhabi with Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II and Prime Minister Jafar Hassan. Sheikh Mohamed greeted the Jordanian King upon arrival. Senior UAE officials, including Vice President Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, participated in the discussions, along with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The attendance of these senior figures highlighted the broad scope of issues addressed during the visit.

Economic Cooperation Grows Under UAE-Jordan Partnership

The main framework for enhancing economic ties is the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, signed on October 6, 2024, and effective from May 15, 2025. This represents the UAE’s first comprehensive economic deal with an Arab nation. The agreement preserves trade liberalization on over 98% of tariff lines, and also covers services, investment, digital trade, customs cooperation, and support for SMEs.

It offers preferential treatment for goods meeting origin and technical standards, encompassing more than 99.5% of the value of UAE exports to Jordan. The pact includes mechanisms to streamline customs procedures and bolster investment cooperation, with committees and focal points assigned to ensure smooth implementation. Sheikh Mohamed and King Abdullah emphasized the importance of economic, trade, and development collaboration as key pillars for advancing UAE-Jordan relations.

Security and Stability in the Middle East Remain Priorities

Regional issues were a key part of the Abu Dhabi discussions. Sheikh Mohamed and King Abdullah exchanged views on regional stability and challenges affecting the Middle East. Both leaders stressed the necessity of sustained coordination between their countries as part of broader efforts to reinforce security and stability in the region. They reaffirmed support for initiatives aimed at establishing lasting peace, with their focus remaining on regional issues of mutual interest.

Following the talks, King Abdullah left the UAE later that day. Sheikh Mohamed was on hand to bid farewell, alongside senior UAE officials. The visit continued a pattern of regular high-level engagement concerning bilateral and regional issues. It combined discussions on economic cooperation under the partnership agreement with consultations on Middle East developments, reaffirming the UAE and Jordan’s joint commitment to close collaboration across economic, developmental, and regional areas.
