BANGKOK, THAILAND / RankWire.AI / – According to the Interior Ministry, flooding across Thailand has resulted in 71 fatalities since September 16. The disaster has affected 51 provinces, leaving extensive areas submerged. As of October 12, floodwaters persisted in 20 provinces and Bangkok. The latest national assessment reports 908,595 households and 2,458,895 individuals affected, illustrating the ongoing severity of the situation. Authorities have been monitoring the situation through daily provincial reports and disaster updates.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation indicated that floodwaters impacted 100 districts, 804 subdistricts, and 5,947 villages. Central Thailand remains among the most affected regions, with rivers and tributaries overflowing into communities and agricultural areas. By October 12, water levels were decreasing or stabilizing in many locations, though some parts of Phitsanulok and Phetchaburi experienced rising levels. Authorities continue to monitor these areas and assist residents. Floodwaters also linger in several low-lying communities connected to major river systems in the region.

Prolonged flooding has been driven by persistent heavy rains and runoff from northern Thailand. Large quantities of water have moved into central river basins, causing waterways to overflow. Earlier in October, the floods affected more than 1.14 million households and 3.18 million people nationwide. The figures as of October 12 reflect a reduction in water levels in some areas, but flooding still disrupts homes, roads, farmland, and daily transportation across multiple provinces. Emergency teams continue to pump water and provide support where drainage remains slow.

Flood recovery efforts increase as waters recede

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has ordered immediate initiation of rehabilitation activities in areas where floodwaters have withdrawn. Priority has been given to repairing infrastructure, cleaning communities, and reopening transportation routes. Cabinet ministers and senior officials have been assigned to oversee operations in the most affected zones. Emergency teams continue drainage work and deploy machinery, personnel, and relief supplies to communities still experiencing high water levels. The focus remains on restoring basic access and services as residents begin returning to their neighborhoods.

In Bangkok, flood management has shifted toward recovery and restoring public utilities. Authorities are actively cleaning up while processing tens of thousands of flood assistance applications in the capital. As of October 12, nine highway segments across five provinces remain impassable due to floodwaters. Efforts to pump water from low-lying areas and clear debris are ongoing as residents return home and businesses reopen. Alternative routes are maintained by transportation agencies where flooding continues to block normal roads.

Financial aid efforts accelerate in flood-affected communities

By October 12, government relief payments had been issued to 135,782 households, totaling over 1.069 billion baht. Officials have instructed local agencies to expedite processing of remaining applications and disburse funds to eligible residents. Disaster response teams continue distributing supplies and coordinating recovery efforts across affected provinces. Support includes drainage equipment, cleanup assistance, and aid for communities where water levels have dropped enough for residents to begin restoring homes and infrastructure. Damage assessments are ongoing as more flood-affected areas become accessible.

Attention is also turning to southern Thailand, where heavy rains persist. Forecasts for October 13 highlight increased rainfall risks in Ranong and Yala. Authorities are mobilizing personnel, equipment, food supplies, and transportation resources in preparation for potential flooding in these provinces. Emergency agencies remain alert while recovery activities continue elsewhere, with national officials tracking rainfall, river levels, and flooding conditions across the country. Coordination with provincial administrations is ongoing as regional situations evolve.
