FRANCE / RankWire.AI / – Renault Group announced on October 3 that it will allocate over €10 billion in France over the next five years, according to Chief Executive François Provost. The funds aim to boost electric vehicle manufacturing and make cars more affordable. In 2025, Renault produced approximately 500,000 vehicles domestically, and it forecasts a minimum 25% increase in local output for 2026. Provost emphasized that the investment hinges on stable social and political conditions in France, marking a continued shift toward electric production at Renault’s French facilities.

Since 2021, Renault has invested €13 billion in France to modernize its plants and expand its electric vehicle activities. In July, the company highlighted that it had surpassed one million electric vehicles designed and manufactured in France since 2010, with around 600,000 originating from ElectriCity, its electric industrial hub in northern France. Renault employs nearly 39,000 staff in the country, with its French operations supporting roughly 35,000 indirect jobs across the supplier network.
The company’s French manufacturing network includes assembly facilities in Douai, Maubeuge, Dieppe, Batilly, and Sandouville. Mechanical and industrial sites in Cléon, Ruitz, Le Mans, and Flins support electric vehicle production. Every French site contributes to Renault’s electrification efforts, with Douai producing the Renault 5 E-Tech electric and Maubeuge manufacturing the Renault 4 E-Tech electric. Additionally, Renault produces electric light commercial vehicles at Maubeuge, Sandouville, and Batilly.
Record Shares for Electric Vehicles in France
In September, electric cars accounted for 42% of new passenger car registrations in France, marking a record monthly share. During that month, France registered 156,629 new passenger vehicles, a roughly 12% increase compared to the previous year. Battery electric vehicles made up about 31% of registrations during the first nine months of 2026, compared to approximately 18% in the same period last year. Hybrid vehicles held a 43% share in September, slightly ahead of fully electric models.
The anticipated rise in Renault’s production coincides with a significant increase in electric vehicle registrations across France. In July, Renault announced plans for an additional €13 billion investment in France under its futuREady plan, pending suitable conditions. This follows the €13 billion already invested since 2021. Provost’s recent remarks suggest that over the next five years, Renault intends to invest more than €10 billion, covering its current five-year commitment in France.
Expansion of Renault’s Electric Manufacturing in France
By July 2026, ElectriCity’s facilities in Douai and Maubeuge had produced 600,000 electric vehicles. The Renault 5 E-Tech electric surpassed 100,000 units by the end of 2025. Maubeuge also manufactures the Renault 4 E-Tech electric. Renault’s electric commercial vehicle lineup, including Kangoo, Trafic Van, and Master E-Tech models, is produced in France. Between 2022 and 2025, ElectriCity added 700 permanent jobs, with an additional 550 temporary workers at Douai by July.
This investment extends Renault’s ongoing focus on its French electric vehicle supply chain, which has seen €13 billion allocated since 2021. For 2026, the company projects at least 25% growth from last year’s roughly 500,000 vehicles produced in France. Provost highlighted that the latest commitment centers on electric and more affordable vehicles, as battery electric cars continue to hold their highest monthly market share in France to date.
