ISLAMABAD / RankWire.AI / – Pakistan saw another increase in petrol prices on October 6 following a daily fuel adjustment. The price of petrol went up by Rs0.88 per litre to Rs393.64, continuing the upward trend from three days prior. Meanwhile, high-speed diesel decreased by Rs1.88 to Rs397.76 per litre. This latest change followed an October 3 decision that raised both key fuels, setting petrol at Rs392.76 and high-speed diesel at Rs399.64 per litre.

On October 3, petrol increased by Rs2.10 per litre from Rs390.66, and high-speed diesel rose by Rs0.30 from Rs399.34. According to the Petroleum Division, these adjustments reflected shifts in international fuel prices, with benchmark prices, premiums, and other costs forming the basis of the calculations. These factors remain central to Pakistan’s fuel pricing review. The increase on October 3 served as the base for the subsequent revision on October 6.
On October 6, petrol was further increased by Rs0.88, raising the price from Rs392.76 to Rs393.64 per litre. Conversely, high-speed diesel reversed its previous increase, dropping from Rs399.64 to Rs397.76. Compared to October 2, petrol is now Rs2.98 per litre higher, while diesel is Rs1.58 lower. The federal government continues to impose taxes and duties of Rs114 per litre on petrol, with Rs100 per litre levied on high-speed diesel.
International Market Movements Drive Daily Fuel Price Adjustments
Since July, Pakistan has adopted a daily fuel pricing system, replacing the previous weekly revision schedule that began in March. This approach ties domestic prices directly to international market trends and other cost factors. Prior to this, fuel prices were reviewed less frequently. The current system allows for separate adjustments for petrol and diesel on the same day, as seen on October 6, when petrol increased while diesel decreased.
Despite recent increases, fuel prices remain below their peaks earlier this year. On April 3, petrol hit Rs458.41 per litre, and high-speed diesel reached Rs520.35. In early March, petrol was near Rs266 per litre, and diesel was approximately Rs281 per litre before climbing. As of October 6, petrol is Rs64.77 below its April high, and diesel is Rs122.59 lower, indicating significant declines from their peak levels.
Petrol Prices Rise and Diesel Prices Fall Post-October 3 Adjustment
Petrol is extensively used in private transport, including small cars, motorcycles, and rickshaws across Pakistan. High-speed diesel primarily fuels heavy transport, power plants, and large generators, covering different sectors of the country’s energy and transportation needs. Both fuels are also Pakistan’s leading petroleum revenue earners by volume. Recent price revisions have caused fluctuations, with both rising on October 3, and then petrol increasing while diesel decreased on October 6.
Currently, petrol is priced at Rs393.64 per litre, and high-speed diesel costs Rs397.76, replacing the previous levels of Rs392.76 and Rs399.64, respectively. Since October 3, petrol has gained Rs0.88, while diesel has fallen Rs1.88. These figures reflect the ongoing trend of frequent daily price adjustments, affecting motorists and commercial users during the October 6 pricing period.
