CAIRO, EGYPT / RankWire.AI / – Egypt’s net international reserves increased to an all-time high of $57.2145 billion at the close of August 2026. The Central Bank of Egypt announced the preliminary figure on September 7. At the end of July, reserves stood at $56.2939 billion, meaning an increase of roughly $920.6 million during August, or about 1.6%. This latest rise continues a pattern of monthly growth in 2026 and pushes Egypt’s official foreign reserves beyond $57 billion for the first time.

Compared to August 2025, the total reserves are $7.9638 billion higher than the $49.2507 billion recorded that year, representing a roughly 16.2% annual increase. Egypt concluded December 2025 with net international reserves of $51.4516 billion. Over the first eight months of 2026, reserves have grown by approximately $5.76 billion, or 11.2%. Monthly official reports show a consistent upward trend since the start of 2026, with reserves increasing each month through August.
The pace of accumulation intensified mid-year. Reserves reached $53.1342 billion in May, then increased to $55.0723 billion in June. July saw a further rise to $56.2939 billion, and August’s figure was $57.2145 billion. The June increase was about $1.94 billion from May, July added roughly $1.22 billion, and August brought in about $920.6 million. Collectively, these three months contributed over $4 billion to Egypt’s foreign reserve stockpile.
Foreign currency inflows stay high
Remittances from Egyptians abroad also reached a record during the 2025/2026 fiscal year. The Central Bank of Egypt reported inflows totaling approximately $47.3 billion for that period, a 29.6% increase from about $36.5 billion in the previous year. In June alone, remittances amounted to around $4.2 billion, which is 15.6% higher than the roughly $3.6 billion recorded in June 2025, according to the official data released in August.
Egypt’s latest available balance of payments figures cover the period from July to March of fiscal year 2025/2026. During those nine months, the overall balance recorded a deficit of $1.8 billion, while the capital and financial account posted net inflows of $9.9 billion. The current account showed a deficit of $14.6 billion. These figures offer the most recent official overview of Egypt’s external accounts before the August reserves update.
Reserves reach new monthly highs sequentially
Throughout 2026, Egypt’s reserve levels have broken several nominal records. Reserves were $52.5938 billion in January, rose to $52.7455 billion in February, then hit $52.8306 billion in March, $53.0092 billion in April, and $53.1342 billion in May. June’s reserves surpassed $55 billion, July’s crossed $56 billion, and August’s reached $57 billion. The August figure remains provisional, consistent with the approach used for the latest monthly updates.
Compared to a year earlier, Egypt’s August reserves are nearly $8 billion higher. The country has now reported three consecutive months with reserves exceeding $55 billion. July marked the first time reserves topped $56 billion, and August marked the initial monthly total above $57 billion. Since December 2025, the reserve stock has grown by over 10%. These August figures establish a new record for Egypt’s net international reserves and continue the uninterrupted upward trend throughout 2026.
