CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has announced the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, featuring significant upgrades to camera technology, performance, and battery life. The new models boast a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera with a variable aperture—a first for the iPhone. Both devices are powered by the latest A20 Pro chip and incorporate a redesigned thermal system. Preorders start on September 12, with the official release set for September 18 across more than 65 countries and regions.

The camera system on the iPhone 18 Pro introduces four adjustable aperture options, allowing users to manage lighting and depth of field. Supported apertures include f/1.48, f/1.8, f/2.8, and f/4.0. The system also features 48-megapixel Ultra Wide and Telephoto lenses. New Pro controls within the Camera app enable users to modify aperture, shutter speed, and white balance. Additionally, a histogram can be viewed during photo or video composition.

Apple has also introduced Reference Image, a feature that requires user opt-in to verify photo authenticity. It captures signed sensor data when a photo is taken in Reference mode, creating a reference image for comparison with edited versions in the Photos app. The company will also support image metadata and the SynthID standard, with SynthID support arriving via a software update later in 2026.

Enhanced camera controls now include variable aperture

The A20 Pro processor, built on a 2-nanometer process, features a six-core CPU and a seven-core GPU. It also contains a Dual 16-core Neural Engine with 32 cores for AI tasks. Apple claims the GPU offers up to 40% faster performance than the A19 Pro. A redesigned vapor chamber increases surface area, boosting sustained performance. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread through Apple’s N1 wireless chip.

Battery life has also been improved across the iPhone 18 Pro series. Apple estimates up to 36 hours of video playback on eSIM-only models, with the Pro Max reaching up to 45 hours under similar conditions. The iPhone 18 Pro can reach 50% charge in roughly 15 minutes with compatible wired accessories. The removal of the physical SIM tray in eSIM-only variants allows for more battery space, and these models will be available in several Middle Eastern markets.

Siri AI Comes with iOS 27 Update

Preloaded with iOS 27, the new iPhones support Siri AI through Apple Intelligence. Siri AI enters beta on September 14 for compatible devices configured in English, with support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish expected in October. The software leverages personal context from messages, emails, and photos to process requests and can respond to content displayed on the screen. Apple Intelligence utilizes on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute for supported cloud-based functions.

Pricing for the iPhone 18 Pro begins at $1,199 in the U.S., while the Pro Max starts at $1,299. Both models offer storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB or 2TB. Available colors include burgundy, glacier, silver and black. In the UAE, the iPhone 18 Pro is priced from AED 5,099. Preorders open on September 12, with sales starting on September 18. The devices will also be released in another 20 countries and regions on September 25.
