The meeting saw Sheikh Mohamed and Barzani revisit the enduring relationship between the UAE, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region. According to official summaries, their discussions explored avenues for expanding collaboration across various sectors. Both parties also addressed regional security issues and mutual interests. The engagement occurred amid ongoing efforts by Middle Eastern governments to prioritize security and stability amid rising regional tensions.

Participants emphasized the importance of fostering security, stability, and enduring peace throughout the Middle East. They highlighted that such initiatives should benefit the region’s populations. The Kurdistan Regional Government noted both sides condemned recent assaults on the UAE. The official account stated leaders agreed on the necessity of maintaining peace and security while discussing regional developments.

UAE and Kurdistan Region explore enhanced collaborative efforts

Abu Dhabi hosted a high-level gathering featuring senior UAE officials alongside Sheikh Mohamed, Barzani, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid. Among the attendees was Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan also took part, along with other top government officials, reflecting the significance of this high-level discussion.

This event marked yet another direct dialogue between Sheikh Mohamed and the Kurdistan Region prime minister in 2026. Previously, Sheikh Mohamed received Barzani in Abu Dhabi on February 3 during an official visit related to the World Governments Summit in Dubai. During that meeting, the focus was on UAE-Iraq relations, regional cooperation with the Kurdistan Region, and shared international issues.

Focus on regional stability remains central

In their February discussions, both leaders examined cooperation initiatives supporting growth and prosperity in the UAE, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region. They also shared perspectives on the World Governments Summit agenda and regional and international developments. The September engagement continued this official dialogue, emphasizing bilateral collaboration and regional stability without announcing new agreements. Public statements underscored a commitment to stronger ties, cross-sector cooperation, and ongoing regional peace efforts. Senior officials from both sides participated in the Abu Dhabi talks, reinforcing the importance of these high-level exchanges.

The latest meeting reinforced the established official connection between the UAE and Iraq, including direct dealings with the Kurdistan Region. While focusing on practical cooperation and security issues, no new agreements were announced. Both sides highlighted their desire for enhanced relations and regional stability, emphasizing continued support for peace and collaboration across various sectors. The discussions concluded with senior representatives from both entities participating in the Abu Dhabi meetings.
