A federal prosecutor has accused three nursing schools in Florida of selling more than 7,600 fake diplomas. According to the Department of Justice, individuals who purchased the fake degrees and transcripts were able to sit for the national nursing board examination. As a result, they were able to obtain nursing licenses without ever having taken the required training for the profession.

Feds say Florida nursing schools sold 7,600 fake diplomasOver two dozen individuals, including school directors and diploma recipients, are accused of engaging in illegal licensing and employment shortcuts. As part of Operation Nightingale, the Department of Justice and the Office of Inspector General of Health and Human Services (HHS-OIG) conducted an investigation.

“The allegations of selling and purchasing nursing diplomas and transcripts to willing but unqualified individuals is a crime that could endanger the health and safety of patients and insults the honorable profession of nursing,” said Omar Pérez Aybar of HHS-OIG. Plaintiffs claim that the fraudulent diplomas and transcripts allowed defendants to obtain licenses and jobs as registered nurses (RNs) and licensed practical/vocational nurses (LPN/VNs) in various states.

The accredited nursing schools under investigation for allegedly issuing thousands of fake nursing diplomas worth over $100 million (roughly $15,000 per diploma) are located in Florida: Siena College in Broward County, Florida, Palm Beach School of Nursing in Palm Beach County, Florida, and Sacred Heart International Institute in Broward County. Currently, the schools are closed, and each defendant faces up to 20 years in prison.

Wildfire Threats Intensify Across Western Europe Amid Extreme Heatwaves and Cross-Border Smoke Spread

    July 30, 2026

Concerns over environmental and public health escalated across Western Europe on Thursday as vast plumes of wildfire smoke crossed national borders. Confirmed by Emirates News Agency, a fourth heatwave is endangering France and Spain, with wildfire smoke risks increasing, creating severe operational hurdles for emergency teams and health authorities. Weather agencies in both countries warned that the extreme temperatures expected will worsen fire conditions and trigger large-scale evacuations, already displacing over 300,000 residents and tourists across the Iberian Peninsula and southwestern France. Healthcare providers implement emergency protocols to manage elevated respiratory risks. In Spain, forecasts from AEMET suggest daytime highs could hit 45 degrees Celsius in several regions, indicating that 2026 may become the hottest year in Spanish history. Meanwhile, Météo-France reported that southwestern France faces extreme temperatures around 38 to 42 degrees Celsius, accelerating dry conditions that continue to fuel active forest fires. Officials emphasized that a combination of prolonged summer drought, high ambient heat, and strong winds creates an environment conducive to rapid fire spread. Authorities in southern Europe issued urgent directives to strengthen fire containment efforts ahead of peak heat levels. Sara Aagesen, Spain’s Minister for the Ecological Transition, noted that the upcoming temperature surge will elevate the risk of new wildfires across rural and forested areas. Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska described the current window as critical for controlling major blazes.
